Pay attention.

Research has proven the positive health benefits that come from experiencing awe in nature. These moments are vital to our lives and – the health of nature itself.
They humble, connect, inspire, bring joy and prompt internal transformation, which if acted upon, help to catalyse efforts towards Earth’s protection.
A treasured reminder of this is Peter Dombrovski’s ‘moment’ with the Franklin River at Rock Bend Island on palawa Country, Tasmania, in the 1970s. His transmission of this experience led to the infamous image that is credited for helping save the river and raise the profile of Tasmania’s incredible natural heritage across the globe.
This is a calling to our community to get outside, be present in nature and share your ‘moment’ with us and We Are Explorers. We are the pro-bono charity partner for the ‘nature photo’ category of We Are Explorers’ ‘MOMENTS’ storytelling competition.
We Are Explorers are a Bcorp adventure publisher on a mission to get more people outside and by doing so, help protect the natural world.
“We’re pumped to celebrate a decade of adventure and storytelling with our first-ever photo, video, and writing competition,” says Tim Ashelford, Managing Director of We Are Explorers.
“MOMENTS is a chance for the adventure community to share their incredible experiences and spread our special brand of love for the outdoors,” adds Tim.
The competition opened last week and entries close Thursday 15 August 2024, with five categories to submit entries in:
Each submission costs a small fee of $10, and will be showcased on the MOMENTS website, where the people can enter and vote on their favourites. The top five entries will progress to an esteemed panel of judges including filmmaker Beau Miles, OM System Ambassador Matt Horspool, photographer Renae Saxby and Astray founder Gemma Clarke. The winners will be announced at a community event held in Sydney on Thursday 12 September 2024.
We know our community is a talented bunch and are anticipating impactful submissions. Best of luck with your moments!
Please note, we are a pro-bono charity partner of MOMENTS and didn’t contribute financially to the competition or partnership.
